Day trips from Oakland…
Two friends we met at Wos bar in Paris and their families generously hosted us when we went to Oakland, California. It was a formidable base, because there are many possibilities in terms of day trips from Oakland!
A few days in Oakland
When we stayed in Oakland, we mostly took some time to relax (Alice caught up on a lot of work she had to do), went to the movies, and walked around the city. After going around the US for more than 2 months, we were happy to take things slow.
Day trips from Oakland #1 : San Francisco
Going to San Francisco from Oakland was a no brainer. So we went twice! We already wrote about our time in San Francisco. It’s just a bus ride away from Oakland, so it’s definitely worth it!
Day trip from Oakland #2 : Piedmont
Our friends suggested we check out Piedmont and we happily followed their advice! It’s a neighbourhood in Oakland that feels like a little town in itself. We had a pretty nice day over there, eating burgers for lunch and checking out all the cute shops.
Day trip from Oakland #3 : Berkeley
We also took the opportunity to go and visit yet another university : Berkeley. The campus was quite nice, and the city of Berkeley possesses a true hippie feeling. Don’t hesitate to make the trip on a sunny day, you won’t be bored.
Although we have to be honest: it was pretty hard to get back to the house… the bus trip was a total nightmare so don’t follow our example and prepare your day trip in advance!
Amazing weekend in Lake Tahoe
Last but not least, we left Oakland for one of one of our favorite place we’ve been in the US : Lake Tahoe. That place is simply amazing, and if you’re selling your house, we want it!
After spending quite a lot of time in busy cities, we tend to be looking for quieter places nowadays. Tahoe is popular place in the summer for its beautiful lake, but it’s also a ski destination in winter. Close to a lake and surrounded by the mountains, you said ? Sign us in!!
Our favorite part of our weekend at Lake Tahoe : kayaking and paddle boarding all together !
